Meditate on The Lord & His Word

Have you ever gone to bed at night and as you lie there thinking over your day, you realize you haven't prayed, read the Word, or even thought about God since your morning quiet time? Maybe you didn't even have your quiet time that day?

We all live busy lives and often we are up and going full speed ahead from sun up until far too late in the night. We run the race of life checking off the endless to-do list, taking care of our family and home, and working. When we do have a few moments to catch our breath, we check in with social media to see what is going on in the lives of our friends and loved ones.

Meditate on the Lord and His Word

Is there a way to go about life and all its busyness, yet still keep our thoughts on the Lord? Could we possibly meditate on His Word and complete all we need to do for the day?

Yes!

How I love Your instruction!
It is my meditation all day long.
Your command makes me wiser than
my enemies, for it is always with me.
I have more insight than all my teachers
because Your decrees are my meditation.
Psalm 119:97-99

It is possible to meditate on the Word of God and to pray as we go about our day to day tasks. Here are a few ways you can meditate on the Lord throughout your day.

Ask God for help. Most important of everything on this list is to pray and ask God to help you. Each morning when you wake up, say, "God, walk with me today. Help me to keep my heart and mind fixed on You." God wants to accompany us throughout our day so He will honor this prayer.

Don't close your Bible. If possible, leave your Bible open on your coffee table, bed, kitchen counter, desk, or somewhere that you will see it through the day. As you walk by, read a verse. If you read the same verse several times throughout the day, you will make large strides in memorizing it!

Use Scripture cards. Scripture cards are so helpful and accessible no matter where you are or what you're doing. You can put one in your pocket, purse, prop it up at your desk, or even your phone case in the morning. Read it throughout the day. The Daily Grace Co has a wide range of little Scripture cards perfect for this. Check out these cards or this small spiral card set.

Stop the scroll. Jumping on social media or even playing a game on your phone is so easy! While we wait in the school pick up line, wait at doctor appointments, wait on a meeting to start, wait in the grocery store line, wait in the coffee shop drive through, we are scrolling. We all do it. But what if instead of scrolling, we wrote out Scripture? I love keeping a Write the Word journal handy for just these times. These journals are just small enough to keep in your glove box or purse. Each journal has preselected Scripture verses to write out. You could pull your journal out, open the Bible app or have a small Bible to carry with you, write out the verses, and use the journal space to journal thoughts or a prayer. It doesn't take very long and is perfect for those moments of waiting. You can find Write the Word journals here. The waiting times are also good for using those Scripture cards we mentioned previously.

Be careful with what you listen to. When you are in the car, at the gym, or cleaning the house, you likely have some kind of music going. Use this time to listen to worship music, church sermons, or Christian podcasts. Here are some Christian podcasts I love.

Set alarms. We set alarms or reminders on our phones for things that matter. Things we don't want to miss. Things we need to do. So why not set an alarm or two or three to remind us to pause and pray?

Life is busy, but meditating on the Word and talking to God throughout our day is important and possible.

Discussion:
1. Which one or two of these suggestions sounds like something you want to try?
2. What else can you think of to meditate on the Word and prayer throughout the day?
