Psalm 8 - Commentary

Introduction

In the grand tapestry of existence, the Magnificence of Srishti Kartha shines forth, weaving threads of creation that stretch across the vast expanse of the cosmos. Psalm 8 reflects upon this divine craftsmanship, contemplating Man's place in creation amidst the splendor of the universe.

The Greatness of Srishti Kartha

  1. The Lord is the creator of the earth and the sky, the sun, the moon, the stars, and the cosmic medium. He is the creator of God's messengers, humans, and living beings. We read the details of God's creation in the Bible in Genesis 1 and 2, John 1, and Hebrews 11:3. Therefore, God is higher than the heavens. His majesty pervades all creation and everywhere (vv. 1,9).

  2. It is recorded in the verses of Matthew 21:15,16 that when the God who created everything was incarnated on earth as a human incarnation, the son of man, when the wise men on earth rejected his superiority, children and young adults praised his superiority. This is also quoted in 1 Corinthians 1:27. The psalmist prophesied this in verse 2.

Man's Place in Creation

  1. We see in verse 4 that when we look at the creation of the Lord who created the universe and all living things, the place of man is very insignificant and small. But God put man on earth to rule over all living things (vv. 3-8). This God-given responsibility and authority can be read in Genesis 1:28,29,30. In these days, we see that man has all the creatures and creatures under his rule. We see man researching the cosmic averages with the tool of God-given science.

  2. But on this earth, He makes man a little lower than the angels. 2 Peter 2:11 states that angels are stronger than men. In many parts of the scriptures, we read that angels bring to men various harmonious helps from God and protect men from the power of the devil.

Genesis 28:12,13; Exodus 32:1,2; Daniel 10:10-12; Matthew 1:20; Luke 2:10, 22:42-44; Acts 12:7-10; Rev. Chapters 7 to 11 show the activity of angels.

However, it is explained in the verse (Galatians 4:13) that man is subject to angels only for a certain period of time. The passage about God the Father of man can be seen in Ephesians 2:7.

In Christ Jesus hath raised us up with him, and made us sit with him in the highest places is the highest position given to angels and non-human beings.

  3. God is not proud of placing man above all creation on earth. However, we read in Ephesians 4:1,2 that we should realize that God has put man in that position with a special purpose and behave accordingly.
