A Bible Study of Revelation Chapter 2--Book 1 by Carrington

Revelation Chapter 2 is the second chapter of the Book of Revelation in the New Testament of the Bible. In this chapter, the Apostle John writes letters to seven churches in Asia, commending them for their faith and encouraging them to persevere in the face of persecution.

The first letter is addressed to the church in Ephesus. The church in Ephesus is commended for their hard work and perseverance in the face of persecution. However, they are also criticized for abandoning their first love, that is, their love for Jesus Christ. They are urged to repent and return to their first love or else face the consequences of having their lampstand removed.

The second letter is addressed to the church in Smyrna. The church in Smyrna is praised for their faithfulness in the face of intense persecution. They are encouraged to continue in their faith and assured that they will receive the crown of life if they persevere.

The third letter is addressed to the church in Pergamum. The church in Pergamum is commended for their faithfulness in the face of persecution, but they are also criticized for tolerating false teachers and the practice of sexual immorality. They are urged to repent and turn away from these sins or else face the consequences of Christ’s judgment.

The fourth letter is addressed to the church in Thyatira. The church in Thyatira is commended for their love, faith, service, and perseverance. However, they are also criticized for tolerating a false prophetess who is leading people into sexual immorality and idolatry. They are urged to repent and turn away from these sins or else face the consequences of Christ’s judgment.

The fifth letter is addressed to the church in Sardis. The church in Sardis is criticized for their spiritual deadness and lack of faithfulness. They are urged to wake up and strengthen what remains before it is too late and they face the consequences of Christ’s judgment.

The sixth letter is addressed to the church in Philadelphia. The church in Philadelphia is praised for their faithfulness and perseverance in the face of opposition. They are encouraged to continue in their faith and assured that they will be kept from the hour of trial that is coming upon the world.

The seventh and final letter is addressed to the church in Laodicea. The church in Laodicea is criticized for their lukewarmness and complacency. They are urged to repent and turn to Christ, who stands at the door and knocks, ready to come in and share a meal with them.

In conclusion, Revelation Chapter 2 is a message to seven churches in Asia, encouraging them to persevere in the face of persecution and remain faithful to Jesus Christ. The letters address the churches’ strengths and weaknesses and urge them to repent and turn away from sin or face the consequences of Christ’s judgment.
