Discover the power of second continued revelation, part 7.is
a true story of one of my most spiritual experiences. When I share it with people, they are often in disbelief. In this part, I talk about my personal understanding of the Holy Spirit and I explain how I know that what I experienced is real. I also talk about what second continued revelation can do for you. Second continued revelation happens all the time when God is speaking and directing your life. It is an indication that there are things going on with you that you are not aware of.
“That Spirit is a mighty Spirit; he knows all your thoughts afar off. No thought can be hid from him. If you wish, you can confide in him. He will not divulge to any other; he will keep your counsel with you in perfect silence, and will guard your treasuries.” (1 Pet. 1:16-18)
A young woman in my Bible study group has been struggling with a long standing relationship problem for the past year. She says that she is very frustrated with her man. He has cheated on her twice and has told her lies about the circumstances of both affairs. Even when he finally admits that he was unfaithful, he claims it was an error and will never do it again. She has even threatened to leave him if he does it again. She says that there is no hope for the marriage. As the rest of us, she is upset and I have to admit that I too have been worried about her. My wife and I are both praying for her.
Now, about a month ago, I was able to have a private conversation with the Holy Spirit. He spoke to me about my wife’s situation and some personal things about her. I share this information with my wife, so she too can pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal to her more details about my conversation. On my way to work, I asked myself how the Holy Spirit can reveal things about my wife to me. I really have no explanation. I am not even sure that I understand how it is possible. I did, however, have an impression that it is happening.
When I share my experience with my wife, she believes me. She has gone to her own experience in order to believe me. She says that she had a similar experience. In fact, a few days later, she had a vision, or more correctly, a dream. In this dream, she saw my wife having a vision with the Holy Spirit. She asked me what happened and I told her about my conversation with the Holy Spirit. She then shared with me a portion of what she saw. My wife was walking along the street and she felt God calling her to a particular person, a young girl. She did not know why the Holy Spirit chose her. She walked right up to the young girl and spoke to her. She was sharing with her some of the things the Holy Spirit said about her and about my wife. God gave her some advice about her relationship with the young girl. She also told her that if she was going to continue a relationship with this young girl that she must be very strong in her own relationship with the Holy Spirit. She said that she will not be able to resist the Holy Spirit.
After that vision, my wife immediately contacted the Holy Spirit about her situation. She spoke with him privately for a few days. On her own she prayed about the issue and in the early hours of this morning, she shared with me that the Holy Spirit has given her the solution to her problem. I am not sure about her timing, but she did just mention it to me.
If you want to discover the power of second continued revelation, I recommend that you read this part carefully. There is a real opportunity here for all of us. It can make a difference in your life and it may even make a difference in someone else’s life.
Before we begin, let me quickly explain that I do not believe that people should sit around talking with the Holy Spirit. This is a powerful part of the gospel and we need to use it wisely. I believe that any time we talk to the Holy Spirit it is a form of prayer, and I think that we should pray. However, talking to the Holy Spirit is different. It is different than praying. It is different than going through the motions of prayer. When we sit with the Holy Spirit, we are having a relationship with God. This is a relationship with a very real God. The Holy Spirit is real and he is a personal God. He is the same God that we have a relationship with in the Bible. To sit and talk with the Holy Spirit is to have a private conversation with God.
I know that this is new to many of you. I know that we are used to talking to God on our own and going through the motions of prayer. I feel that when we communicate with the Holy Spirit, we are beginning a new relationship. When we sit and talk with the Holy Spirit, we are having a conversation, or a dialogue, with God. We are not talking to God as the Father, or as the Son, or as the Holy Spirit. We are talking with God, as a person, as one of his children. It is a personal relationship.
“The great and precious gift that we have in Jesus Christ is access to God. We can go into the presence of God, as a person, as a friend, and as a Father. When we sit and talk with God, we are able to become acquainted with God. God is no longer in some distant place. He is with us. He is in the house of God, in the house of prayer. In that relationship, we will be more likely to listen to God.” (“Discover the Power of Second Continued Revelation,” by J. Michael Smith, pg. 7)
As a person who has sat with the Holy Spirit for a long time, I will share with you what I have learned. We tend to talk and to hear the same things over and over again. We might hear the same topics over and over again. This may seem normal and even comforting. However, we are missing something, we are missing the depth of our relationship with God. We are missing the Holy Spirit.
In the beginning of my walk with the Holy Spirit, I would often be very disappointed when the Holy Spirit would reveal to me things that seemed to be of little importance. However, after I had time to meditate on the revelation, I would look at it with great joy and appreciation. I would say, “O God, you know the things of which I have been speaking. You know the things that I have been thinking about. I do not think that I could have said it that way on my own.” As I meditated on the revelation, it changed the way I thought and felt. It made me look at problems in my life with a new perspective. It made me more prayerful and less hurried in my prayers. The Holy Spirit is a personal God. He is there with us. We can talk with him. We do not need to have an intermediary. He is a personal God, in a very real way. We are in a relationship with him. He is not an impersonal, distant God. He is near and close to us. He wants to be with us. When we sit with him, we are able to enjoy our time with God and with each other. It is more real than talking to the Father or to the Son. We can talk to God as a friend, or as a Father.
“How do you get to know the person of the Holy Spirit? What is the personal relationship like between a man and a woman? How about between a man and God? You do not need the words of the Bible to have a relationship with the Holy Spirit. You do not need to have some type of understanding about the Bible or even about what Jesus said. You can have a relationship with the Holy Spirit without knowing anything about Jesus. You do not have to say anything. If you look at your life, you can tell about your relationship with God. If you listen to God, and talk to him, you can tell about your relationship with God. You may not know everything that God has said to you, but you can have a relationship with God. The Holy Spirit is always around you, as a personal God, someone who wants to be with you and who wants to communicate with you. He knows you. He loves you. He wants to be with you. The Holy Spirit is available to you at all times. You have access to the very person of God. The Holy Spirit knows you. He loves you. He wants to be your friend. When you sit down with God, you are beginning to become acquainted with God.” (“Discover the Power of Second Continued Revelation,” by J. Michael Smith, pg. 9)
Another advantage to sitting down with the Holy Spirit is that you are able to share things about your life with him. We know that God is good. He is merciful and he is just. We know that God does not keep secrets. However, when we share things with God, we are able to tell the Holy Spirit things that we are not able to tell anyone else. We do not have to tell anyone else what we are thinking and feeling. We can tell God and he will talk with us. We can talk to God as a person.
A friend of mine has a very difficult time in his life. As I think about him, I find myself frustrated with him. I cannot understand why God allowed this situation to happen. This is the same thing
