Revelation Chapter 8 the Bible study on the subject of sex education
I. Sex Education-Chapter 8; The Problem of Desire
When you have made the body clean, so that it may make your
hut a vestibule, and may become a byword and a scorn to those who are
about you, because those outside regard the things within as unclean;
(Wis 6:12 NIV)
We are all born with some sexual urges and desire. I agree with Scripture that urges and desires have their place in relationships and make relationships fulfilling and enjoyable. I agree with Scripture that these urges, impulses and desires are not evil; on the contrary, they are essential to the life-giving love of God. But urges, impulses and desires can be controlled, directed and used by the Holy Spirit to do good things.
Let us examine briefly the meaning of a byword. An illustration might help: A
byword is a word of disgrace, a word which is given as a sign of
contempt and mockery, a term of derision. A byword is like a
mocker. We should not mock our bodies because it is a byword to many;
it is a scandal to many, a reproach to many. If we do not protect
our bodies properly, many will use our bodies as a byword. How does
the Bible instruct us to deal with these issues?
1. First, God desires us to love our bodies.
Our bodies are a gift from God (Rom 8:24). Therefore, we should not despise or scorn our bodies as it is written, "Do not make plans for the future; set your mind on what is above" (Col 3:2).
Our bodies are given to us by God as a result of the
union between the man and woman. Consequently, God also gives us the
capacity to have sex, to desire sex, to be sexually aroused, and to
be fulfilled sexually. These urges and desires are good and they
proceed from the love of God. God is not the author of sin,
therefore the desire to engage in a sexual relationship, sexual
experiences, and sexual relations are not sinful. We should be very
cautious about what we do with our bodies and how we handle the sex
issue.
2. Secondly, God says that we should protect our bodies.
We are to be sexually fulfilled and our bodies should be protected by the
good things of life. However, when things have become evil, they
should be cleansed and restored to proper conduct (Wis 6:12). In
accordance with this law, we must not view our bodies as unclean but
should instead view them as holy and clean (Wis 6:12).
How do we protect our bodies from evil and the corruption
of the world? Let us learn what God expects of us concerning our
bodies and let us learn how to be good stewards of God's
creation. The first and most important thing we should do is to be
in subjection to God. When God's law is observed and God is
worshipped, He will remove and remove all evil from our bodies. We
can only be protected by God's powerful protection. We should know
that the body is a gift from God, the temple of God, a place where
God dwells. The Bible says that there is one God in heaven and one
God on earth (Deu 6:4). That means that all of God is present
within the body.
To worship and to be in subjection to God in our bodies, let us worship God
by our own bodies, for we are not our own (1 Cor 6:19), but our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, the temple of the living God. The Holy Spirit dwells in the body (1 Cor 6:19), and He has promised to dwell in us. That means
that we should be able to control and direct our bodies by the
Holy Spirit. If God is in us and we do not control our bodies, then
God is not in us, and there is no true holiness in us.
God is a spirit (1 John 4:24). We are not human beings with flesh and bones. We are spiritual beings with flesh and bones. Our bodies are only our present
bodies. Our bodies are not our permanent bodies. Our bodies will
not live forever, but God's Holy Spirit will live in our bodies and
we are supposed to be the temple of God. God desires that we
manage our bodies by His Spirit. Therefore, we should be very
cautious about how we use and manage our bodies. We need to protect
and honor our bodies as it is written, "Do not let your adornment
become a burden to you." (1 Pet. 3:4)
We should avoid things that may destroy our bodies. We are told that when there are impure things in our
bodies, the impure things are to be cleansed and removed (1 John
2:15). We are also told that we should not be afraid of those
impurities or corruptions in our bodies. When God wants to cleanse
and restore our bodies to holiness, we should be very cautious and
helpful in how we seek to remove or remove impurities and
corruptions.
Do not consider your body to be your
own; God has given you the body of Christ. For in it the whole law is
written.
(Col 2:16)
The Holy Spirit dwells in our bodies, therefore we
should be very cautious and careful about how we handle our bodies.
We should manage our bodies to protect them and honor them. We
should avoid things that would harm or destroy them. We should
respect the body, our bodies and the life within it.
God is Creator. When the body is God's temple, what are we to
do with it?
1. We are to honor and respect the body.
God created the body, therefore we should not despise or scorn it. We are to make sure that the body is
protected and respected. When a man or woman touches or is
touched by their bodies, that is sexual contact. When we touch each
other sexually, we touch the body. We should not only respect the
body, but we are to honor it and we should be very cautious in how we
use it. We should not treat our bodies like tools, that we can use
when we please, and then get rid of them when we are done with them.
God is a spirit. When we think that we are the body, we are
not the body, but we are simply the body's tenant. We are not the
body, we are the spiritual being inhabiting the body, but the body is
God's temple. It is our responsibility to protect the body of God
(our body) and honor the temple of God (our body). We should care
for our bodies as God does, and when we fail to do that, we should
take steps to correct it.
2. We are to protect the body against evil.
We are to protect our bodies against evil. Evil destroys our bodies and we must protect our bodies by
praying for them.
3. We are to protect the body from the wickedness of the world.
The wickedness of the world is an evil. It is an evil which
wipes out our bodies and ruins them. Therefore, we.....
